My first entry for January starts with a pretty pink release by luxury french beauty brand, By Terry!

There’re three new products that were added the existing Baume de Rose family.

Apart from the visually pleasing pink packaging, this collection is sure to appeal to all rose lovers. The iconic scent of Baume de Rose is present in all three.

Up first is the exciting new lip care stick and scrub. Beautifully packaged in minimal, stylish pink.

What I love about balm sticks is the convenience of application. No more grubby fingers poking into jars! Therefore hygienic application and also prolonged shelf life. I’m actually surprised By Terry hadn’t thought of launching this earlier.

If you are a fan of the iconic Baume de Rose, this new crayon makes a lovely addition to your handbag. Just as comforting, nourishing with a touch of luxurious Rose flower essential wax & Vitamin E to keep the lips supple all day. The only difference between the original pot and this crayon is the formula is less buttery and thick, which I believe was better as an overnight lip repair treatment. The stick version is more of a light balm that delivers long lasting hydration for day time. It’s colourless and goes on thin which makes it ideal as a pre-lipstick lip perfecter too.

The Lip Scrub is described as an “ultra-gentle scrub that delicately smoothes, refines & beautifies the lips. Super charged with Rose butter, Rose flower essential wax, Rose hip oil & oil extracts of Black Rose & Pastel Rose, it’s sugary rich balm leaves lips hydrated, nourished and more comfortable”.

The first thing I noticed was that the granules are suspended in a ultra creamy formula and rather sparse. For lips that tend to get extremely flakey, this most certainly will not be getting rid of every single flake. Personally i’d opt for something slightly more gritty with less creaminess for thorough exfoliating.

However, as the description, the smoothing ingredients do soften and nourish the lips for a pillowy pout. Something that would work for regular upkeep and comfort for anyone living in colder and dry weather or just have naturally dry lips that need constant care.

Lastly, my favourite product of this launch. The Body Scrub.

It’s no secret i’m addicted to luxury body care. I find myself continuously reaching for products slightly on the higher price range as the ingredients and textures are usually more cosmetically elegant & refined. Basically you are paying more for the ‘experience’.

If you strictly indulge in budget body care, this one’s obviously not for you. But! I do believe, if you read my blog and follow me here, you are more likely a luxury skincare junkie too! Yes?

The consistency and granule size is perfect for a gentle but thorough scrub. The sugar particles don’t feel scratchy or harsh, and leave the skin feeling smooth and velvety after use. My preferred method of use is applying this directly on dry skin and emulsifing by adding some water halfway through. Smells amazing btw and gets the job done!

What’s noticeably special about this formula is that it’s deeply hydrating & nourishing even after rinsing.

Reading the ingredient list I find this includes Rose butter, Rose Hip oil and also Black Rose oil extract just as the lip scrub. All that keeps skin supple and moist & perfect for dry skin and drier weather.

Bottom Line

My top pick of the collection is the Body Scrub! It’s just such a luxurious treat after a long day. Trust, your body will love you for a nice scrub down with some luxurious and skin loving ingredients. Of course, the price is steep. But then again, we are talking expensive ingredients and a product that’s effective and also feels amazing.

The Lip Care Crayon is a good everyday staple. The product works and provides long term hydration. Something I always look for in lip products.

The only product that didn’t live up to expectations was the Lip Scrub. As far as an effective lip scrub goes, my experience was rather underwhelming (even though this is classified as ‘ultra-gentle’ and I should be expecting a softer exfoliation). Basically a lot more granules would be required for this to work on my flaky lips.

Testing lip balms has to be one of my favourite things as a blogger. Constantly picking up ‘promising’ lip treats has been my mission in 2017! So finally here’s my thought’s on a few that’s been in rotation.

Chanel – Hydra Beauty Nutrition Nourishing Lip Care

It’s no secret Chanel is all about the ‘luxury experience’, and when they finally released this chic little lip balm a few years ago I decided to grab one. The key ingredient is an extract from the Camellia Flower, a flower closely associated with the house of Chanel. It’s to soothe and coat lips with a waxy formula for instantly hydrated lips.

The balm is mildly scented with a near perfect consistency. Not too heavy or too light, this one’s my everyday go-to in general. Unlike most lip balms in my rotation, it allows flexible use, day or night. Though I find it specially enticing at night just to ensure my lips don’t end up dry from the Air con.

If luxury beauty treats are your vice, this is a perfect addition. Get’s the job done, all the while looking sleek in your makeup bag or vanity top.

Clé De Peau Beauté – Lip Treatment

Unlike most deeply hydrating lip balms, the CPB Lip Treatment comes in the ever so favoured stick packaging. I love this for on-the-go use. Hygienic, nourishing and always in my bag for whenever my lips feel parched.

The formula of this is a lighter, doesn’t feel waxy and comes with no noticeable scent. According to the official web site, it’s said to restore plumpness and reduce any peeling.

What I love about this is the consistency is perfect for pre-lipstick application. Of course there are many cheaper lip balms that do this job perfectly well, but I had to try the Clé de Peau one if only for the need to try all things Clé de Peau as a regular user of the brand. Btw, did you notice the cute pink marble style cap? Sooo cute!

Elizabeth Arden – 8 Hour Lip Protectant

Every beauty editors favourite SOS balm now comes in a travel friendly tin. At first it was the wanderlust inspired packaging that got me. Subsequently, the powers of the tried and tested 8 Hour formula won me over outta the blue. It’s a nourishing, thick balm for whenever your lips are going though that dry phase. What I love is that, this classic doesn’t come at a steep price. Keep one in your hand bag, on your bed side table or at office. It’s affordable and gets the job done.

P.S – you can rub in the excess on your cuticles too, this works great as a barrier balm to stop your nails/cuticles from drying out!

Laneige – Lip Sleeping Mask

The Laneige mask is one of those incredible finds over the years. It’s been my best friend when my lips are beyond help and just needs some extra TLC.

Thick, but in a melty, buttery smooth texture, this little gem comes in several mouth watering flavours. It truly does smells DELICIOUS, and I’d say backup worthy.

The hero ingredients that make this balm a winner includes a Berry Mix Complex, berry extracts that contain vitamin C and anti-oxidants to restore lips to their supple state. Secondly, a Moisture Wrap technology that forms a moisturising film to lock in hydration (a mix of hydro ion mineral water, evening primrose root extract and Hunza Apricot extract).

This Sleeping Mask comes in several flavours, and if in doubt, choose Berry (the original). Smells like an absolute DREAM!

La Mer – The Lip Balm

One more beauty editor favourites. This one’s an OG! Infused with La Mer’s patented Miracle Broth, the Lip Balm hydrated DEEPLY and softens any dry flakes to be easily scrubbed off by morning.

It’s the very first luxury balm I ever owned.

As with all things La Mer, the ingredients are designed for anti-ageing. Keeping the lips looking younger by plumping and smoothing. Do you need such and expensive balm? Probably not. But this does work extra hard to keep those lips ultra kissable!

Ettusais – Lip Essence

The most affordable lip choice of the lot, and something i’d recommend to EVERYONE.

Not only does it soothe and soften dry lips overnight. I find this works even better as a lip mask than the Laneige.. A few consecutive nights of this lip oil repairs my lips like no other.

Unscented. Great packaging and handbag friendly.

Bobbi Brown – Extra Lip Tint

I thought i’d include one lip balm that’s also a lip tint. And my favourite is by Bobbi. May not be as popular as the Dior Lip Glow, but this does the exact same thing. But only better (in my honest opinion).

Firstly, I find this provides longer lasting hydration with the same pretty tinted lip effect. Also, keeps the lips emollient even after meals and constant drinking though out the day.

If the sleek white packaging hasn’t already swayed you. I’d assure you it’s one of the best lip treatments you’ll find.

Bottom Line 

Personally I find a use for all of these. They work for me in various situations and as someone who’d perpetually suffering from dry lips, these are saviours and therefore must-haves!

It seems the best summer beauty comes from Tom Ford each year. Of course the white and gold packaging is hard to resist, but what do you do when everything is soo good and you can’t pick??

The Soleil Ultra Shine Lip Colors are incredibly juicy saturated lipsticks with the comfort of a balm texture. For a glossy lipstick, I find the payoff of these beyond impressive. Two strokes for full-on saturated lips.

The formula doesn’t feel heavy or over emollient. The perfect light airy feel of a summer lip. These are great as an everyday lipstick, they don’t make my lips peel or dry out. It’s all i’ve been reaching for these days!

Wear time would be around 3-4 hours depending on the shades you choose. The darker ones seem to wear better and stain the lips.

Here’s 7 of the 11 shades released. The colour range is in fact pretty good, with something for everyone!

Next up, complexion offerings of the Soleil collection.

Among the brand new additions is this double ended Shade and Illuminate Glow Stick in the shade Sunstruck. It’s the first time Tom Ford released a double ended complexion stick like this and quite similar in size and design to the one’s released by Dior last year (which I also happen to love).

The product consists of a bright apricot blush and a bronze highlight. A balmy formulation for glossy sun-kissed summer skin.

The blush shade as evident is saturated and vivid. The kind of effortless, summery, healthy flush we strive for. The colour blends well to achieve a very natural looking flush, no harsh edges or colour streaking.

The highlight shade looks wet on the skin with very fine sparkle that’s noticeable once blended out. Only Tom Ford could pull off a cheek glitter that looks luxe!

Wear time of this depends on wether you set with a powder. On it’s own I find I can get about 6-7 hours wear without noticeable fading.

For those who prefer a powder blush, this year we have another addition to the Soleil Sheer Cheek Duos. Exotica Flora. Unlike the blush highlight combos of previous seasons, this years addition comes with two blushes! A bright coral and a pink.

I’ve swatched this alongside some of the other Sheer Cheek Duos. As you can see the colour payoff is beautiful but does require a light hand on application.

Exotica Flora (as seen above) has the most brightening effect among the duos. I love that the colour of these are buildable and should work great on all skin tones alike! Especially the medium to deeper complexions!

On the cheeks they maintain an ethereal translucent quality even though they are well pigmented and they always seem to blend into the skin without any powderiness.

Bottom Line

If I had to pick favourites from the collection, it’d be at least one of the lipsticks, either Exuberant or Ravenous. Sun struck Shade & Illuminate Stick and the Sheer Cheek Duo.

They are best of the collection.

Of course, this time around there’s nothing I consider a miss and the quality was top notch! If you are in the mood to spend, the Tom Ford Soleil collection is exactly where you should begin!

My own experience with the brand began when I picked up a jar of their Soft Cream about 6 years ago. Since then, many formulations and new technology has been introduced within the moisturisers category, and i’ve finally managed to test them ALL!

Currently there’re three favourites I keep in rotation. These are my go-to’s which I constantly turn to when my skin needs extra TLC and moisture.

If you’ve been eyeing the moisturisers and unable to make up your mind on which formula to invest in, I hope my review would be of use to you. The options can be overwhelming if you are new to the brand. I know.

The current portfolio of La Mer Moisturisers contain the original Crème de la Mer, Soft Cream, Soft Lotion, Moisturizing Cool Gel Cream and the Moisturizing Matte Lotion.

The latest release (just last month) was the Cool Gel Cream that replaced the Gel Cream. Perfect for summer months and anyone with combination skin.

All formulations of the La Mer moisturisers contain the nutrient rich ‘Miracle Broth’. An ingredient derived from Sea Kelp which was discovered by Dr. Huber (the founder).

This Miracle Broth boasts an array of benefits. Accelerates skin regeneration, nourishes skin, heals and soothes. Over time skin looks radiant, with less visible lines and supple. Overall, younger looking.

Here’s a quick look at some swatches I took, so you get an feel of the texture.

The creams are lined up from the lightest to the richest formula.

• Moisturizing Cool Gel Cream – A translucent gel that’s cooling up on application. The formula delivers a burst of hydration leaving the skin supple to the touch. Skin immediately looks refreshed and healthy with a light radiant slow.

This formula is ideal for warmer months, humid conditions and anyone with combination skin. I use this as a morning moisturizer. Perfect to be worn under makeup as it hydrates well but doesn’t create an additional oily layer on the skin which could cause makeup to slide off. Suitable for normal, combination and oily skin types.

• Moisturizing Matte Lotion – The lightest cream formula of the 5 moisturizers. I find the hydration capabilities similar to the Cool Gel Cream. However in my personal opinion, I would pick a gel moisturiser over matte. I prefer my skin to feel really well hydrated throughout the day. This particular formulation, balances shine and softens the look of pores as it doesn’t create an overly radiant look. Ideal for oily skin types or combination skin. 

• Moisturizing Soft Lotion – Provides intense hydration without the heaviness of a thick moisturiser. I would recommend this for day and night for normal or combo skin types. Personally this is my go-to for a night time skincare routine and the convenient pump bottle makes for easy use. The bottle although heavy, I find to be travel friendly as I don’t have to pack a additional spatula! Perfect for normal skin and combination skin.

• Moisturizing Soft Cream – Very similar in terms of texture although less runny in comparison to the Soft Lotion. It’s my old favourite.

With prolonged use, skin feels supple and healthy. The overall texture of the skin is improved and noticeably firmer.

This formula is perfect for night time routines if you have normal to dry skin. For the day time I would advice using lesser quantity and making it work. With my combination skin, the Soft Cream wasn’t a suitable option for the day time. Although personally I do enjoy some extra hydration at night, I suspect the rich texture caused a few whiteheads. Therefore hesitate recommending this to anyone with combination skin or tends to have pores that clog easily.

• Crème de la Mer – The richest formulation of the 5. More suitable for mature, dry skin as the texture is in fact very rich. I use this mostly in colder climates when my skin gets dry and starts to peel. I ALWAYS pack my mini when I travel, ‘just in case’. It’s great for instant relief for irritated peeling skin and winter weather; also good for hands and elbows or whenever you need some extra moisture. Suitable for dry or mature skin types.

The Cool Gel Cream, Moisturizing Soft Lotion and Soft Cream. The three I rotate in my routine.

Personally the new Cool Gel Cream is my favourite as it’s ideal for combination skin for day time. The hydration level is just right for me and doesn’t feel oily on the skin.

For the nights it’s usually the Soft Lotion or the Soft Cream. These days it’s mostly the Soft Lotion though as my Soft Cream takes a back seat.

Bottom Line

Apart from the positives, I do notice whenever I use the thicker formulations of La Mer, my t-zone starts to clog easily, which brings me to address a question that keeps popping up time and again. Mineral oils???!

The second or third ingredient in every La Mer moisturizer ingredient list i’ve checked contains Petrolatum. Mineral oil. It’s a known ingredient that can cause clogged pores. In an age where skincare is starting to get ‘cleaner’ it’s harder to understand the use of such a filler. My advice is, if you have generally congested skin or skin prone to white heads, possibly pick one of the lighter formulas or look elsewhere. In my experience I do think some of the creams can cause white heads.

The reason I continue to use La Mer even with the mineral oil debate, is because I do notice my skin in better condition while on it. It’s healing and soothing properties make it perfect for sensitive skin like mine, that’s constantly battling redness and irritation.

Today I have a review of the Chanel Cruise Collection, Éclat Et Transparence. With a stunning showcase of effortless elegance, Lucia Pica proposes bold use of red in transparent layers for the warmest season. Perfect to compliment that golden tan.

Even though the collection is mostly about this beautiful red eye palette, I found other bits that I believe are just as tempting. I’m sure you’ve already got a potential list ready by now too.

L’Eau Tan – (tanning spray)

From the entire collection, the palette has to be my favourite. It’s not often Chanel strays from the tried and true classics but I believe these tones are the perfect balance for a look that’s daring yet elegant at the same time.

The palette consists of all pearlised shadows. A sheer golden oyster, gunmetal grey, medium bronze and a vibrant warm red.

The payoff of all eyeshadows are quite good, even though intense these blend impressively. For todays look i’ve used a majority of the red shade pushing the palette to it’s limits purely to show you it’s potential. Usually I don’t wear dramatic looks like this unless it’s something like New Year!

Here’re some swatches first.

Considering the seemingly undying interest in red palettes, I added a few comparison swatches featuring some of my other favourites. In case you want to pick them up as well!

The matte red in the Marc Jacobs palette leans more neutral in comparison to Chanel. Tom Ford overall gives off a more tonal muted vibe.

Between the three, the Chanel red is by far the most vibrant and interesting. A mix i’m loving currently even for dinner makeup, wearing just the bronze paired with a touch of red in the outer corner, lining with the gunmetal. It’s one of those effortless looks you can slap on in a rush.

What are your thoughts on red palettes?

This season Chanel also released an Essential Palette in an unexpected colourway. A striking combination of a creamy raspberry red blush, shimmering warm gold highlighter with gold specks and a rosy nude shimmer highlighter.

Although intimidating at first glance, I do love the balmy blush and find it very easy to blend. The finish and the texture was a clear winner for me. It’s one of those effortless products that end up being a must have during summer. juicy plump cheeks all year long actually!

The two highlighter shades in the gold and rose gold offer an element of light to the complexion. Both creamy and very easy to blend. Even though the gold is quite warm, I experimented using it on the high points of the cheeks (now that i’ve tanned considerably). I don’t think it’ll work that well on paler complexions though. The yellow tones in this is very pronounced. The rosy nude on the other hand is almost my skin colour and blends leaving a wet glow. No detectable colour once blended out. I feel this would look better on paler complexions and a great option if you like a glossy natural looking highlight. Usually it’s hard to recommend a palette if you don’t love all the shades but, if you feel the yellow is workable somehow, I think the blush and rosy nude highlight alone makes this rather special.

The Jumbo Lip Crayons were an instant love for me. The colours I have `A la Rosée and Au Naturel, a peachy pink and a warm medium brown.

The texture of these are very creamy, they glide on easily and deliver a glossy sheer to medium coverage. I don’t think they work well built up, as the formula has too much slip, however worn as just a touch of colour, both shades look summery and fresh. My personal favourite is Au Naturel, with A la Rosée being slightly too light a shade for my medium skin tone.

Overall I think the quality of these are really lovely and keep the lips hydrated and supple throughout wear. Lasting power as expected (as any sheer lipstick) was about 2-3 hours. Regular touchups are necessary to keep these going the whole day.

If all else is a pass, the nailpolish shades within the collection are totally worth looking at. I’m happy to find the formula of these have improved and now they last longer. Although the best wear I can get is still about 5 days. I love that they don’t chip as easily.

The colours I tested was Chicness and Légèrete. A muted rosy taupe and a muted medium sage green. I never got around to testing the pink polish Halo, but in case you do own Novela Rosa (from spring), this one’s much warmer and brighter. They aren’t alike.

Lastly, here’s a look at the eyeshadow palette and the blush from the Essential palette worn on the cheeks. I do love all the tones of red that make for a striking look. On the lips is the Jumbo Lip Crayon, Au Naturel.

Bottom Line

The quality of the products I sampled were impressive and true to Chanel standards. The palette especially, (Éclat Énigmatique) is a must have. I wish I had longer wear with my oily lids, but it didn’t stay on more than 4-5 hours. I might have to try various primers to get this to work better on me, but over the last year i’ve noticed most eyeshadows have been fading faster. I believe my oily lids are just getting oilier!.

Also a must have within the collection is a gorgeous polish Chicness. I think you will be needing backups of this.

Early June Chanel launched a range of new cleansers. I was lucky to receive the product beforehand and been testing everything for the past few months. What’s exciting is this collection is complete with cleansers for all needs. From an oil for makeup removal to a foaming cleanser for daily use, to everything in between!

According to the press release, the collection was created keeping skins balance in mind, and contains two key marine active ingredients. Blue Micro-Algae to protect the skin from micro-stress generated by pollution, and Marine Salicornia with it’s ability to self-regulate water and for skin strengthening actions.

These cleansers give you a thorough cleanse removing makeup and impurities while maintaining the skin barrier and PH for comfortable soft skin that’s radiant and stronger.

LE LAIT FRAICHEUR D’EAU Anti-Pollution Cleansing Milk-to-Water

Is a mildly scented, light cream that melts into a watery texture when massaged into the skin, then wiped off with cotton or in my case, rinsed off. Every single use I noticed that this leaves a thin film on the skin and doesn’t rinse off completely and therefore preferable for days when the skin’s feeling drier than normal.

*According to instructions on the box, it is to be wiped off with cotton, though I still prefer to wash away all traces of cleanser, so I proceeded to use it as I always do. If you have dry skin the wipe off method should be ideal.

LE LAIT DOUCEUR D’HUILE Anti -Pollution Cleansing Milk-to-Oil

As the name suggests, goes on a cream to transform into a clear solution which lightly emulsifies milky with water. The formula was gentle and does not irritate the eyes. Once rinsed the cleanser is removed completely without any residue on the skin but feels soft to the touch without feeling dry or tight.

Mildly scented as the Cleansing Milk-To-Water.

LA MOUSSE Cleansing Cream to Foam

Is a foam cleanser. Mildly scented and extra rich in terms of foaminess. This is my favourite for a morning cleanse or a second cleanse if you double cleanse regularly. I like that it never leaves the skin feeling tight or dry. The tube is also pretty large too and a little goes a long way. It will last you a while!

L’HUILE Anti-Pollution Cleansing Oil

The first thing I noticed about L’Huile is that it’s quite heavily scented in comparison to the other three. If you prefer something unscented or have skin that’s easily irritated by fragrance, best try a sample first. What I love though is that this really does take off makeup exceptionally well without having to rub too hard.

Massaged onto dry skin this oil goes on like silk, then emulsifies with water to create a milky solution that rinses off completely with no oily residue. Skin never feels stripped but incredibly clean and soft. It’s a must try in my opinion if you are interested in the collection and my favourite.

Bottom Line

Upon use it’s pretty evident these are luxury cleansers. The sensorial pleasure and textures justify paying extra for. The sleek packaging is just the cherry on top!

Also in comparison to the prices of other luxury cleansers i’ve used before, the Chanel is actually priced better. The Tom Ford oil cleanser is a lot more $$$ (reviewed here), so are the cleansers by Sisley or Clé de Peau (who also revamped their entire cleanser line last year & reviewed here). S$64 is still within the justifiable margin to me.

My top picks from the new collection are the oil and the foaming cleanser & would recommend them to anyone keen on trying out this line.

The instant Dior summer dropped I was at the counter in a heartbeat to check out the most exciting portion of the launch. All new liquid liners in a rainbow of colours! I’ve already posted complete swatches here on IG but was really keen on letting you know my thoughts on these products after giving them a fair test.

At the time I also grabbed one of the limited edition Nude powders in a pastel mix (which I normally skip as they are too light for my tanned skin), & also the new All Day Brow Ink which was a waterproof formula.

The collection consists of 14 shades from matte white to hot pink to shimmery blue. All packaged in slick black with the corresponding shade on the length of the liner (which is always great for easy identification).

The applicator is an easy to use felt tip that’s perfectly formed for precision. What really impressed me is, with the shape and length of the tip, it was near impossible to mess up the application. The fine tip allows you to get really close to the roots of the lashes and in between for a fuller voluminous look.

The saturation of colour is truly impressive. One fluid stroke is all it takes for a neat opaque line. I don’t think a coloured liner should be any other way.

Between the mattes and the shimmers (which were only a few) I find I like both formulas. Although I did notice the mattes weren’t a true matte as expected. They always seem to dry to a semi matte finish.

If you are one of those people who find it difficult making it through the day without a migrating line.. this is THE ONE you are looking for. I found the longevity of these incredible. There was zero smudging or flaking all day. And this is me testing a full day which is over 12 hours right up until I take off my makeup at night (by which i’m always faced with at least a little smudging near the inner corners)..

On that same note, taking off the liner does require some patience as this long-wear formula fittingly adheres to the lids and is budge proof. Normally i’d turn to a waterproof eye makeup remover to successfully get every last bit of eye makeup off and it works brilliantly.

Here’s a quick comparison of my go-to daily liners against the new Dior. As you can see, the Matte Brown is very saturated and applies beautifully. Another reason why I seem to use it most days.

Bottom line

Impressed. That’s my conclusion in one word. It’s rare I find a product that truly exceeds expectations. And my oily lids concur these to be backup worthy.

So far my top picks are the Matte Brown and Pearly Turquoise. Both apply so beautifully. However if you require something with some punch, the pink makes a fabulous summer shade. I know I will use this lots! 

What are  your top picks from this collection? I really do think the brights are extra special. Speaking of… the new Brow Tint has been quite promising too. Worth checking out if you happen to pop by a store.

If you prefer a ‘no makeup’ makeup look as I do, concealer might just be the one product you use daily. My daily look usually includes my Clé de Peau concealer worn on it’s own or as a touch up for areas with blemishes, redness or anywhere I prefer just a touch more coverage.

This year, Clé de Peau reformulated and relaunched their bestseller concealer with a whole new look. Even though the previous packaging (in my eyes) was the ultimate in terms of luxury, the brand has managed to take it a notch higher.

If you are new to the Clé de Peau Concealer. It’s a stick type product. Compact and easy to carry even in the smallest of makeup bags. It’s the size of a lipstick. Tiny but mighty!

The coverage is quite high, with very good pigmentation. You don’t have to pack on loads to achieve that flawless look. It blends easily and fuses to the skin, staying put all day long without sliding around or creasing (much). In comparison to the older version, the new concealer is far less emollient and even more pigmented. I do find the updated formula has minimal creasing and works wonderfully for the undereyes.

Also added to this new formula is sunscreen (broad spectrum SPF 25 PA +++) to protect the undereye from sun damage. And ALSO skincare ingredients such as Chestnut Rosa Fruit Extract, Green Tea Extract to protect  the skin with a daily dose of antioxidants. This formula promises anti-aging properties that over time helps achieve a brighter under eye and also smoothed out wrinkles.

Here’s a look at the old and the new. I like the new touches and design elements of the updated packaging. The subtle gold detailing adds to it’s appeal.

For those of you already using this concealer, it’s interesting to note that Ochre is now noticeably neutral and lighter than the older version. However I find the same shade matches me just the same.

Below are swatch comparisons to other high coverage concealers in my stash. (For reference, i’m usually between a MAC 30-35)

Overall NARS delivers the best coverage from the lot, although I refrain from using it under the eyes as it tends to migrate into my fine lines. It’s mostly reserved for pigmentation and spot concealing for which it works exceptionally well. Like photoshop for real life. See review here.

Personally I prefer a lighter coverage concealer for day to day use and adding a touch of Clé de Peau for more coverage on the purple areas or around the nose where there’s a lot of redness.For special occasions it’s definitely Clé de Peau all the way as nothing else gives me that flawless look under the eyes without caking.

Here’s a roundup of all the shades currently available. The range isn’t massive, but there’s enough shades for fair to medium to deep (except for very deep complexions).

Bottom Line

It’s a big thumbs up from me.

I love that there’s added sun protection, specially useful since I never apply sun screen under the eyes; and the new ‘Thin Fit Layer Formula’ allows the concealer to apply smoothly and set, so creasing to be kept at a minimum while also prolonging wear.

I understand justifying the price for something so small (in terms of quantity) can be difficult, but the amount used daily makes the tiniest dent. It’s without a doubt an investment purchase but one that has served me well. So far my last one has lasted me 1.5 years!

This fall Chanel has a new addition to their lipstick lineup. The Rouge Allure Liquid Powder Matte Lipsticks (in six shades).

An innovative matte formula that’s liquid but goes on silky smooth for a velvety finish. The final effect is a softly blurry colour that mimics a quintessential ‘just been kissed’ French lip look. Smudgy, effortless, with no harsh edges.

Overall the packaging is a win, I find the soft rubber look rather fresh and very travel friendly. Also the matching tube with the corresponding lipstick shade makes life a lot easier when you have to grab-and-go in the mornings. My only concern is the sponge tip applicator of which i’ve never been a fan, but of course essential to create the blurry, smudgy look.

The formula goes on the lips almost velvety and has a smooth silicone-y feel. Never really setting but looking completely matte and velvety on the lips. Worlds apart from the (dry as the desert) matte liquid lipsticks that’s in the market right now. And you’ll never have to worry about emphasized lip lines anymore.

As expected, with a formula that doesn’t set, the longevity isn’t much (2-3 hours max) and definitely doesn’t last through meals. Regular touchups would be necessary to maintain intensity.

Overall within the range, some shades appear considerably more pigmented than the others. I believe Avant Gardiste to have the best texture and pigmentation. Plasir and Avocation though pigmented cannot be layered on and ends up looking slightly patchy whenever I attempt to achieve better coverage.

956 Invincible – A neutral true red.

954 Radical – A neutral orange red.

958 Volupte – A bright raspberry red.

950 Plasir – A bright peach.

Bottom line

The texture is actually something completely new and takes a bit of getting use to. There’s a constant fear the colour might actually move and end up smudging since they feel so cushiony on the lips.

What I really love though is it never dries out the lips, something exceptional since a matte lip look always ends up feeling uncomfortable within a few hours.

Overall I can’t really say if I love them enough to wear everyday. What draws me is the intense saturated colour. If I had to recommend one, a must-try, Avant-Gardiste would be my pick. An elegant red for a special night out.

This month NARS launched their ‘Eyes Collection’ with a reformulation of existing shadows and also  brand new shades. For as long as I remember, NARS shadows have been some of the best in the market and with what i’ve seen (swatched) the product is now improved and even better.

This new line introduces a brand new Pigment Powder Suspension technology that delivers intense colour payoff, effortless blendability and rich, longwearing vibrant colour. Expect glitters, buttery mattes, shimmery pearls and satins, whatever suits your fancy.

The collection is broken down to 4 categories,

Hardwired sheens – Multi dimensional glitters for maximum impact and dramatic shine.

Precious metals – Shimmery shades to create soft pops of colour.

Pure Pops – Bright vibrant shades to add a burst of colour.

Soft Essentials – Neutrals in buttery mattes and smooth satins.

Along with the new formula, NARS has now switched up the packaging for a sleeker, slim compact. Of course no departure from the signature matte black packaging, it’s still quintessentially NARS.

Hardwired Sheens were the first to catch my eye. The colours were spectacular. Nothing that’s been in the permanent NARS collections before. Duo chromes, sparkly glitters that are soft to the touch and almost flakey (in a good way) and amazing pearly pigment that glisten. There’s 18 in total.

Argentina – A shimmering violet with a smokey deep base.

Chile – An iridescent lavender duochrome with pink shimmer.

Earthshine – Iridescent pink with a shimmery champagne shimmer.

Ecstacy – A minty green with gold shimmer. Very soft and flakey to the touch with good pigmentation.

Firenze – Another flakey high shimmer pink sequin like shadow.

Galapagos – Earthy brown with gold shimmer. Excellent pigmentation.

Goa – A brown green.

Hellcat – Pewter green with gold shimmer.

Lunar – A Lavender with pink shimmer. Good pigmentation with a very smooth application.

Madrid – A duochrome brown with a green and purple shift.

Melrose – Duochrome salmon pink with gold flecks.

Mendoza – A bronze with gold reflect. Excellent pigmentation.

Night breed – A sooty matte black with black glitter flecks.

Night clubbing – Black with gold pearly shimmer.

Pattaya – Coppery gold with a high shimmer flakey finish.

Pointe Noire – Plum brown with shimmer.

Rio de la Plata – A champagne with gold flecks.

Stud – A silvery pewter brown with amazing pigmentation.

Next up Precious Metals. These are the metallic shimmers and pearly shades. Almost everything swatched with good payoff and silky smooth to the touch. 13 shades in total.

Banquise – Vibrant silver.

Big Sur – A shimmering deep blue.

Fez – A medium satin brown.

Guayaquil – A bright rusty brown.

Isla Bonita – An iridescent white gold.

Kashmir – A neutral champagne beige.

Lahore – A rosy brown.

Mekong – A deep warm brown with golden shimmer.

Pyrenees – A shimmery gunmetal.

Rome – A taupey grey with silver shimmer.

Verona – Icy pink with silver shimmer.

Virgin Gorda – A golden pink.

Zambezi – A cool mint green with shimmer.

The mattes and satins within the Soft Essentials category were simply exceptional. Pretty much everything I could ever want in a matte. Think buttery soft, silky, exceptional blendability (no dry chalkiness at all) and good pigmentation. My first thought was, I need them all!.. (and so do you).

Ashes to ashes – A soft fleshy brown.

Bali – A neutral deep brown.

Bengali – A warm medium brown.

Biarritz – A silky matte cream.

Blondie – An ashy light brown with yellow undertones.

Cabo san Lucas – A fleshy pink.

Coconut grove – A deep brown.

Kingston – A silky matte grey taupe.

Nepal – A satin pink nude.

New York – Reddened neutral brown with amazing smoothness and payoff.

Night star – A cream with golden glitter flecks.

Nouméa – Orange toned brown with amazing payoff and texture.

Sofia – A pink toned brown.

Tullum – A warm ochre brown with excellent texture and pigmentation.

Lastly a look at the Pure Pops range that feature bright colours especially for artistry. Most of the best pigmented shades within this line were the mattes. The colours were saturated with very good texture and payoff. There’s just one shade that I couldn’t seem to swatch. The poorest performer. Domination. I can’t confirm how it picks up on a brush, but when swatching the payoff was next to nothing.

In this category I swatched just a few shades. The ones that caught my eye and had good pigmentation.

Baby Jane – A matte bright baby blue with good payoff.

Duoro – An exceptional bright matte yellow.

Night Porter – A shimmering forest green.

Persia – A matte Terracotta orange with amazing payoff.

Showgirl – A shimmering bright blue with amazing payoff and silky texture.

Strada – A Lavender with a gold sheen.

* Another shade that’s worth a mention was Goldfinger. A muted yellow gold. Unfortunately I missed it in the swatch but the texture and finish is very similar to Showgirl.

Bottom line

Given the overwhelming range, my favourites that I think you should zoom in on would be the Hardwired Sheens and the Soft Essential (mattes). The colours and textures will be some of the best you’ve ever tried.

Here’re my top favourites. I’m going to try and keep them to ten!

Earthshine, Firenze, Galapagos, Mendoza, Melrose, Stud, Virgin Gorda, Noumea, Bengali, Persia. I’d also like to throw in Tulum as a unique ochre which would make a beautiful warming shadow that works well as a transition shade and also layering.

For the more adventurous, I’d suggest Baby Jane and Duoro. Both must haves!

In August Tom Ford launched their first ever Cushion foundation. Buildable medium-full coverage for a long-wearing flawless finish.

The formula promises to be “unfazed by water, humidity and perspiration as it minimizes oil, pores, fine lines and wrinkles. Skin is infused with a plumping dose of moisture courtesy of Aquacell, a proprietary plant based moisturising complex with every application.”

The packaging is very much luxury in every sense. From the elegant cognac case to the thoughtful gold trimmings and inlaid TF logo up top. This cushion (as expected) is lightweight and comes complete with a fabulous magnetic closure for quick and easy touch-ups on the go!

Unlike the standard liquid foundations, most cushion compacts come with around 15ml. The TF cushion contains 12ml. In any case I believe you’d use far less of this though since the coverage is VERY high in comparison to regular cushions and you don’t have to keep building up.

The consistency of this is slightly thicker as well. And from what i’ve noticed, runs a bit light in comparison to the other Tom Ford foundations. About half a shade lighter to be exact!  I happen to be the very last shade. 5.5 Bisque. It’s still a tad too light for my summer (tanned) skin, but I can just about make it work without having to bronze up a lot.

The Tom Ford Traceless Touch Foundation gives you a satin matte finish, very skin-like and radiant.

The coverage is impressive and can be built up to what i’d call ….almost full. I don’t think it ever looks cakey at any point. But overloading will certainly cause the foundation to move throughout the day.

If you prefer more coverage than the traditional cushion foundations, the Tom Ford is definitely for you. It bridges the gap between ‘easy on-the-go light makeup’ and the ‘full coverage, so we apply only at home… foundations’! Finally, portable foundations no longer have to be light with next to nothing coverage.

As far as wear is concerned, I can confidently say this lasts all day without much need to touch up. I packed this with me to test out in Paris last month and it was one of the few that made it through the whole day without looking oily and worn. The weather was a bit chilly which is probably why I didn’t feel it get too oily. But testing it out back home I do notice it sink into any larger pores and fine lines as the day progressed….. even after powdering quite well. Basically, a mid day blot was inevitable for my combination skin.

Bottom line

I do think this is an excellent addition to the Tom Ford portfolio. Judging by it’s popularity (read, totally sold out), it’s definitely one for the shopping list.

Unfortunately the shade range is a poor 8 in total. I hope you fit in! Me being a fair-medium (NC30-35 in MAC) made it very difficult to grab a suitable match. But I do think once my tan fades, the foundation will definitely start becoming my go-to since it’s so easy to apply and looks great on the skin!

Recently Belif launched the Aqua Bomb Sleeping Mask. As part of their best selling hydration range the Aqua Bomb (which includes, moisturisers and mists), the sleeping mask is a night time treat to double up your hydration game.

This mask is a lightweight jelly texture with a fragrance similar to all Belif Aqua Bomb products (which I find hard to describe!, almost minty but herbal fresh scent…). A calming treat to those of you who enjoy ‘natural’ skincare.

Sleeping masks are my go-to for days when my skin’s troubled and I don’t feel like loading it with multiple layers of lotions and potions. Just something hydrating to keep it calm and happy. The mask is also an easy way to skip a few steps basically without sacrificing hydration on days you just don’t feel up for a lengthy night time routine. A quick fix before you jump into bed.

The product itself if a wonderful texture, you instantly feel the cooling hydration the second it’s applied to the skin. Cocooned in this gel, the skin takes a very cosy nap to wake up refreshed and plump! The radiance and glow of well hydrated skin is unmistakable, the product does deliver.

Part of the appeal of Belif products is that they contain no added fragrance. I’ve never had a bad reaction to them even with my sensitive skin. Usually fragranced products irritate and occasionally leave me with little bumps. Never the case with Belif. It’s down to the purest herbal ingredients that go into their products. No artificial preservatives, parabens, sulfates or phthalates, no mineral oil or any animal origin ingredients.

It’s perfect for any skin type!

Bottom Line

If you are keen on trying something K beauty, or just looking to add an indulgent mask to your skincare cabinet, I highly recommend checking this product out. Also, do check out the Aqua Bomb True Cream. It’s one of my favourites from Belif!

This fall Chanel released an all matte collection.

Mysterious, sophisticated and just what the heart needs to warm up to this cosy season.

The collection features two matte eye quads, a neutral (of course) and a striking blue, a selection of Le Rouge Crayon (this season in a matte formula), my favourite Rouge Allure Ink liquid lipsticks in 4 new shades , two matte nail varnishes, cream eyeshadow sticks and blush.

What’s even more exciting is that the packaging is also matte which reenforces the matte theme.

Here’s a look at the pieces of the collection i’ve been testing.

As always the eye products are what piqued my interest instantly.

Quiet Revolution consists of a pale dusty rose, deep teal blue, cerulean blue and a smokey grey. The shadows swatch smoothly and feel silky as they’re applied. My favourite shade to work with is the teal. I find shades with green undertones can really bring out the green in olive complexions. So I use the cerulean blue to counteract this and add more life. You can add a pink blush to neutralise the overly yellow/green cast if you are olive skinned like me. The total effect is beautiful with this blue eye look.

The pigmentation of the shadows were excellent. They really layer well for intense colour, I didn’t have to use a cream shadow or eyeliner as a base to achieve a fully opaque wash of colour. This is what I love about luxury eyeshadows, the colours are always so vibrant. Affordable matte shadows have a tendency to look ashy at times and with this quad you get nothing but incredible colour.

I didn’t experience fall out with the teal (even though I anticipated it!), but noticed the cerulean blue had noticeable kick up when I dip my brush in to pick the colour. I ended up with a few splashes of blue around my eye and had to clean up. I think the brush used does play a part in how much fall out you get, stiffer brushes seem to produce more fall out as they flick the product away as you apply. Anyways, do your eyes before the base is always my advice when it comes to palettes like these.

Clair-Obscur is a neutral matte lovers dream. If you ever were in the market for a neutral matte quad, I’d highly recommend this one! The overall palette leans more neutral than warm making it great for most skin tones. There’s a latte brown, a pale taupe, a cream and a deep neutral brown to enhance and deepen your eye look. The shadows are really smooth to the touch and apply like silk. They are easy to blend and make for a great everyday eye look if you do wear eyeshadow on the daily. My go to look is using the palest shade on the entire lid and adding a little shading to the crease with the taupe.

I experienced no noticeable fall out (also they are browns so really, you are safe!). I still recommend using a primer though to help the eyeshadows adhere to the lids for prolonged wear. With the Chanel eye primer they do.not.budge.

Next up, lips!

I was excited to see more lip crayons this season as I absolutely adore the Chanel crayon formula. They are my favourite from Chanels lip lineup. Apart from the fact they are so easy to throw on (jumbo pencils really are fool-proof), the new matte version makes them even more longer lasting without constant need of reapplication.

Also, since reds are my weakness, these new additions were my first choice when I was packing for Paris in September.

Though termed matte, these are more creamy satin in finish. Not glossy as the originals but not quite as matte to be classified a straight up matte. I like to think of them as a ‘flattering matte’, the type of formula that don’t make your lips look like raisins, but pillowy, luscious and va va voom!.

ALL of them glided on like silk! Incredibly pigmented for a lightweight formula. Truly one of the best lipstick releases this year and most certainly worthy of the 2018 favourites post! (So grab them before you miss out!)

In todays blue makeup look I used Discretion. A nude which pulls more pinky peach on my sallow skin.

Next up, the Rouge Allure Inks. They are liquid lipsticks which dry down to a matte.

I have two shades with me.  A deep vampy red and a cheerful bright, strawberry red. If you are new to the formula you can check out my very first review, HERE. I like this particular Chanel lipstick formula as it’s weightless and doesn’t give your lips the raisin effect. It goes on in thin layers with colour you can build up to full opacity maintaining the weightless feel.

I don’t have Serenity with me, (a gorgeous rose nude). Something i’d most likely use often. Somehow I have only accumulated the reds in this formula and can’t tell you how the lighter shades perform. If you have tried them. Do leave your thoughts in the comments section.

Last but not least, here’s a set of comparison swatches featuring other Rouge Allure Inks in my collection. As you can see, I love the reds!

Bottom Line

Everything in this collection is pretty much amazing.  The only bits that didn’t make me go wow was probably the nail polish. I’m more an old school glossy polish girl at heart, but that’s my preference, also the Chanel polish formula isn’t the longest lasting so I tend to skip these unless the colour is truly unique!

The Matte Lip Crayons are my top picks. You really can’t go wrong with these. Even though there are so many variations of red within this lineup they are all so different. You can purchase a few without feeling too guilty.

Last but not least, of the eye quads, Clair-Obscura is a must have.  A true matte neutral palette with this quality is a rare find and I honestly do believe you shouldn’t miss out. Over the years I never let any Chanel palette slip if I felt it was a good formula, these are the palettes I come back to over and over. They are worth the splurge.

First post of the new year and i’m about to share some of my staples when it comes to makeup. Nude & MLBB lipsticks.

Nude lipsticks can range from light beige to ebony, it depends on what looks nude on your skintone. Overall for my medium olive skin, I tend to use a lot of browns and mauves most with a hint of pink. They are truly the easiest to wear and can be paired with practically anything in terms of outfits! Hence, lipsticks like these tend to get purchased quite frequently. But only some, make it to my everyday rotation.

Today I want to share some of the best shades I own. Not all are true favourites (or nudes), but I wanted to get some variety in here as well, so there’s a little bit of everything.

MAC Only You – Part of the limited Edition Ellie Goulding collection (from 2017 I believe), this warm pinky rose is a cream formula. Honestly can’t tell you how much I loved/love this one. It’s a gem. Easy to wear, feels great on the lips and looks super girly. I find myself reaching for shades like this often. The perfect MLBB shade.

Make Up For Ever C106 – A creamy neutral pink nude. This is actually a lot pinker to be classified as ‘nude’. But for a few good weeks in 2018 it was my go-to. I loved how it applied, the colour and pigmentation. The only downside though, after a few hours, it tends to leave that horrible white goop on the rim of your lips. I’m sure you know what i’m talking about! Not all lipsticks leave this weird white line. But this does.

Bobbi Brown Bare – If I had to wear just one lipstick all my life this would be it (not saying that I will, but figuratively. Yes). Something about this formula and shade is just comforting. I reach for this all the time, and honestly with the volume of free lipstick I receive as PR, it’s hard to make a statement like that unless I truly do. The colour has a hint of warmth but not overly yellow. A great shade of neutral brown for all medium skintones and a lovely nude for even deeper complexions.

The BB Crushed Lip Color is a buildable formula that feels balmy & weightless on the lips. It just melts in and works great as a smudged, worn in look. Never make my lips flake or fade unnaturally.

Estée Lauder Strapless – I have to say these Pure Color Love lipsticks are some of the most underrated lipsticks ever! The formula is top notch, creamy but not too much slip. Lovely texture and most of all, pigmented AND affordable. it’s another one of those shades I can’t seem to stop wearing! The colour will work for almost all skin tones and complexions. The perfect MLBB shade if you are fair or medium.

Bobbi Brown Rosebud – Is a warm rosy nude. First off, the formula of this is sublime. The BB Nourishing Lip Color formula is one of the best lipstick formulas in my book, and something I recommend to everyone who’s willing listen. Bright Raspberry is another favourite that I reach for quite often. My must have lip colour for summer. You need them both!

MAC Velvet Teddy – is an OG. A matte nude with a hint of pink & warmth. I did a little poll on Instagram when I posted the lipstick lineup and a lot of you picked out Velvet Teddy from the swatches. It’s just one of those shades that work on most skin tones. An oldie but a goodie.

Bobbi Brown Sazan Nude – This was limited edition but seems to be back in the permanent lineup. Very pretty nude with a hint of warmth that works best on fairer complexions. I do love this one with a smokier eye for a sultry evening look. The Crushed Lip Color formulas are my favourite so can’t recommend them enough.

Bobbi Brown Pink Nude – Another great nude for fairer skin tones. Love the hint of peachy pink that I know most seem to favour over the true nudes and a colour that’ll flatter anyone with a fair to medium complexion without looking washed out. Pink nudes also look good on olive complexions as it balances out the green undertones of the skin.

Estée Lauder Mysterious Mauve – Is a medium mauve rose. One of those shades which I had to hunt down cos I could never find it! Not one of my absolute must haves in the end, but the Pure Colour Envy Sculpting formula is incredibly pigmented and one I do adore.

Clé de Peau Beauté Lotus Flower – Earlier Last year CPB launched these new lipsticks. The packaging was just luxurious and super gorgeous so I rushed to purchase a few. These retail somewhere close to S$100, so I only got one at the time and this was my pick. The shade is a peachy rose brown, super flattering on olive skin tones and works great for medium complexions. Also the little bits of shimmer (in the swatch) is not very visible on the lips, if glitter/shimmer is a deal breaker, you really don’t have to worry. This looks more of a satin matte on the lips.

What’s your favourite shade from this line up? Mine’s Bobbi Brown Bare. And the Crushed Lip Colors in general. I’m just someone who enjoys an easy lip (and eye), cos I strongly believe in the whole less is more approach to makeup. Hence why I share so many neutral makeup looks over here!

In December Estée Lauder released another collection by Violette.

The highly anticipated La Dangereuse collection inspired by a Femme Fatale (as you may have guessed).

This new release features metallic finishes, bright colours and luxurious textures. Something perfect for the holiday season and also, all year through.

My favourite bits of this collection are the palettes (without a doubt!). Violette always does beautiful colour stories and creates makeup that women want to wear. This time around it’s sinfully luxurious colours! Just what I like!

Between the two, the Amour, Amour palette is my favourite. If you don’t already own a tonne of red palettes… maybe there’s room for one more?

The colour mix is simply stunning! The shades all work together harmoniously to create something special each time and the varied textures of the palettes make even the simplest eye looks pretty and full of dimension. 8 shades should give you endless possibilities!

Shade 1 – A sparkly pink highlighter/ topper shade with multi dimensional reflects of silver and blue.

Shade 2 – A matte cranberry red with buildable colour.

Shade 3 – A smooth orangey copper with good payoff.

Shade 4 – A buttery soft vibrant metallic copper.

Shade 5 – Copper with a red sparkle and a slightly gritty texture.

Shade 6 – A silky antique gold.

Shade 7 – A cranberry with pink tones. This one applies beautifully and blends well.

Shade 8 – A deep prune with medium colour pay off. Buildable.

The best in terms of payoff were the sparkly and metallic shades. They are super silky and ultra pigmented. My favourites were Shade 4 and 6 which were outstanding. The mattes albeit harder pressed, pick up well with a brush and blended easily. No harsh edges, no fallout or patchiness. I did start with a primed eye though as per usual as everything looks more vibrant and definitely longer lasting with some primer on.

Shade 5 was the only shadow with a slightly gritty texture when swatched. It also had a little bit of fallout.

Overall I liked the colours in this palette. Definitely something i’d recommend you to try from the collection. IF these tones suit you.

Next up, the Blue Dahlia palette.

A mix of olive, golds and shades of blue in varied finishes. My favourite shadow of course is the cobalt blue. So vibrant and unique!

Shade 1 – A dirty olive green/yellow. Sheer but buildable with little fallout

Shade 2 – A neutral toned sparkly taupe which feels a tad dry to the touch.

Shade 3 – Vibrant mustard gold with a smooth texture that applies like silk.

Shade 4 – Black with green sparkle. Sadly very powdery with lots of fallout.

Shade 5 – A cobalt blue with super payoff and looked just as vibrant on the eyes as it does in the pan!

Shade 6 – Soft peachy gold with medium pigmentation.

Shade 7 – Pearlised peacock blue with impressive pigmentation and smooth texture.

Shade 8 – A deep teal blue.

Overall I do prefer the formula of the red palette better. Some of the shades in Blue Dahlia (Shade 2 in particular) felt slightly drier & gritty to the touch. There’s definite fallout with this one.

Shade 4 was also a little tricky and performed infinitely better when used with a primer. Without one the pigment doesn’t seem to hold on to the lid.

That being said, the star colours were really lovely (I mean THAT blue! it has my heart!). The texture was silky and almost gel like. Adheres so well once applied and looks just as vibrant on the lids as in the pan. I loved it as a liner too for the lower lashes for an unexpected pop of colour. Instantly makes the eyes the centre of attention! Of course as a solid one colour look this should work perfectly too. I can’t wait to wear this colour by itself sometime.

Overall I do like the palette. The cobalt blue is such a stunner and does make this mix extra special. If you are a lover of blues, The Blue Dahlia might just be very hard to miss.

The eye gloss in the collection, Sheer Scandal is a pink holographic clear gloss with a texture that is smooth and balmy. Perfect for adding a grungy/ worn in effect to a smudgy eye look. Just remember to wear a waterproof mascara with this one to avoid any melting or migration!

Application tip – Always apply in one stroke. The balm as you may have guessed moves any underlying shadow and several strokes will cause all the colour to mix.

Moving on to the last product for the eyes! The Jumbo Eye Crayon.

Sly & Sultry is a flattering shade for all skin tones, this one’s your everyday, easy, get ready in the car kinda product. Application is a breeze, just scribble and blend with your fingers (or a brush). It has super super payoff and adheres to the lid beautifully.

The lip options were some of the best offerings of this collection. Beautiful shades that are easy to wear and suit most skin tones.

The liquid lipsticks within the collection are both matte. Naked which is an ultra pigmented nude brown. And La Dangereuse a berry raspberry red with fine pink shimmers for a metallic effect. The metallic lipstick needed a more precise application as the shimmer had a tendency to apply uneven, unlike Naked which I patted on with my fingers for a weightless, nude lip.

This particular liquid lipstick formula is barely noticeable (weightless) when worn and I love it! It also doesn’t emphasize lip lines or feel drying at all.

Diabolique is a luscious berry in a cream finish. The pigmentation is medium but buildable to full coverage in 2-3 strokes. This one I LOVE!

To complete the look, the collection included a face palette. The Sculpting Face Trio. Of the three palettes, the packaging of this feels more premium and the (smaller) size is just perfect to keep in my makeup bag.

The palette contains three powders, a face sculpting powder, a pink blush and a champagne highlighter. So far my general thoughts are this sculpting powder would be useless on anyone who isn’t super fair.

To me it’s pretty much a shade I can use on my eyelids to even out and prep my primer for shadow. On the other hand the blush and highlight is actually really nice. The blush in particular is a great shade for olive skin tones like mine and really uplifts the complexion. The formula of this is perfect. Not powdery at all with just the right consistency to achieve a perfectly flushed cheek. Clown cheeks are a thing of the past with this palette! And the shade would suit pretty much all skin tones. Even deeper ones.

The highlighter shade was a lovely consistency too, great payoff and silky smooth in texture. A champagne glow is always welcome and I love that they picked an ultra wearable shade for a palette like this.

Overall I do see myself traveling with this palette. I know I can get a lot of use with this mix. Even the sculpt shade i’ll be using on my eyes so nothing goes to waste.

Onto the look created which I happen to shoot during sun down. Totally loving these shades for the evening btw.

For the complexion I kept it simple, using Swirling Passions palette with Shade 2 from the Amour, Amour eye palette as an added pop of colour.

Bottom Line

Overall I think the best buys are the lipsticks (all are limited edition) and the red palette Amour, Amour.

I can’t recommend the Face palette unless you are VERY fair. The sculpt shade will not work on medium tones like myself.

In time for the season of love, YSL Beauty launched a collectors edition of Rouge Volupté Shine lipsticks in 4 juicy shades. For this launch their iconic golden packaging comes stamped with the signature YSL heart in the same colour as the lipstick inside.

The packaging is cute, and instantly caught my eye. It’s sure to sell out fast!

If you weren’t a YSL lover before, this limited edition collection is certain to make you take a second look. Luckily what’s inside is just as good since YSL is most known for their lipsticks!

Of the 4 shades I received 3 from the YSL PR team.

No. 12 Corail Dolman – A vibrant coral

No. 15 Corail Spontini – A medium peach

No. 45 Rouge Tuxedo – A strawberry red

They all come in the sheer Rouge Volupté Shine finish which is a balmy texture with impressive shine. If you love an easy to wear, hydrating formula this ticks all those boxes. I find the darker shades apply more evenly unlike No.15 which was slightly patchy as I layered on to build up more coverage. With a sheerer formula, lighter shades are harder to wear on my pigmented lips and most often look patchy and need more work blending to get that even look.

In terms of wear these lasted surprisingly well. I’ve tried Rouge Volupté Shines before but never noticed it’s longevity. The creamy finish hugs the lips for a good 3-4 hours after which it fades very evenly leaving a sheer wash of residual colour.

I also pulled out some similar lipsticks in my stash for a quick comparison. My favourite formulas from Tom Ford & Bobbi Brown. Both very balmy hydrating versions that suit dry lips well.

The YSL is clearly much sheerer in terms of pigment. It’s buildable with several swipes but I think my favourite way to wear them is with a lip liner. I can enjoy the lipstick without feeling like there’s too much product sitting on top.

As far as comfort and hydration go, I couldn’t pick a ‘better’ formula, maybe Bobbi Brown is slightly more nourishing and balmy. But all are equally pleasant to wear and never drying.

Lastly sharing a quick look I did for Valentine’s day using shade 15 and 45. I’ll add in the product list in the end for those of you interested.

I wanted to shoot a beauty look that used all YSL colour. But I don’t have any of their blushes, so I swapped in some NARS instead.

Bottom Line

I really love them. The shades the formula, absolute winners. If you have pigmented lips or a deeper complexion, No. 15 is harder to wear and can look patchy. Other than that, the red and coral shades should work for all skin tones and look beautiful worn.

Tom Ford has just launched a bunch of new liquid lip colours. I’ve seen them pop up on online but will only be launching in Singapore in March.

After testing them these few weeks i’m ready to share my thoughts. So far I received 3 shades to try, two from the matte finish range (10 shades in total) and one from the vinyl finish (a range of 10 as well).

The packaging is absolutely stunning. True to the Tom Ford aesthetic, these feel weighty & luxurious (made in glass, similar to the ones by Clé de Peau).

Jaguar – A vibrant peachy pink coral

Overpower – A bright neutral red with pink tones

Infuriate – A rich burgundy with a hint of plum

The matte Lip Lacquer Luxe is a highly pigmented formula. The two I tested, both Jaguar and Overpower were opaque in a single swipe. What I loved the most was they did not accentuate lip lines, instead set to a pretty soft focus effect for a saturated, high impact lip.

The flocked doe foot applicator tapers off to a blunt pointed tip which makes defining the lip contour easy. It only didn’t seem to work as well with the vinyl formula, (possibly due to the thicker consistency) and left an uneven edge that needed to be neatened up with a q-tip.

The vinyl finish is an amazingly rich formula. Hands down the most pigmented liquid lipstick i’ve ever come across. The texture is thicker which made it slightly harder to achieve a neat edge with the applicator as mentioned previously. Needless to say this formula is high maintenance. The only way to beat it was to apply the bare minimum without any excess product that could potentially move around. I’d even go a step further and line the lips for additional safety. These migrate over time.

Overall the vinyl looks beautiful and glossy on the lips, a statement lip to say the least, but SOO much work!

In terms of lasting power the mattes are pretty good, they are not budge proof, but relatively transfer resistant once set. Luckily they last well enough through a meal so touchups aren’t a must unless you are really particular. Happy to report these did not dry out my lips one bit. Always a plus when it comes to matte lipsticks.

With the vinyl finish I didn’t wear it an entire day to test, but during the time of testing it did get on my teeth, so i’m guessing this would most likely only survive regular drinking and not an entire meal?

I also like that these lipsticks aren’t hard to remove. I’ve had some mid range matte liquid lipsticks wear like glue! The hardest part is taking them off at the end of the day. The struggle!

Luckily the Tom Ford Lip Lacquers come off easily with Bioderma. Minimal staining on the mattes with a little bit more on the vinyl I tested. Possibly since it was a very deep shade.

Overall the Tom Ford Lip Lacquer Luxe has been the best matte liquid lipstick in terms of finish and comfort. The major winning point is that it doesn’t dry out my lips and make them peel.

Digging up a few shades for comparisons I picked from matte and cream formulas in my stash.

NARS Powermatte Flame from the latest CNY limited edition is an almost neon coral. More pink in comparison to Jaguar.

Chanel Seduisant is a slightly more pink coral, but less vibrant.

Chanel Libere is more warm in comparison to Overpower. less pigmented but similarly vibrant.

YSL No.12 is a true red, more matte on the lips but completely weightless.

Chanel Melancholia (Fall 2018) is a muted burgundy, less pigmentation to Infuriate and is a matte.

NARS Powermatte Warm Leatherette is lighter and more violet in comparison.

Givenchy Framboise Charmeuse is similar once worn. Less in intensity and gloss factor. But a lot easier to wear.

My all time favourite formula for matte liquid lipsticks so far has been the YSL Tatouage colours. They have an extensive shade range and I love them for their weightlessness. They do actually feel like nothing on the lips and don’t feel tacky which is something I hate when i’m wearing a liquid lipstick. Another plus, they are also transfer resistant and wear very well during the day.

Comparisons within the Tom Ford Liquid Lipstick formulas.

I pulled out some of the older Tom Ford releases for a quick comparison.

The Lip Lacquers and the Lip Lacquer Extreme that released last year are more matte and don’t transfer at all. They are more similar to the YSL Tatouage lipsticks.The Lip Lacquer Luxe feel almost hydrating when worn.

The Patent Finish Lip Colours from a few years back are a thinner formula that’s similar to the Lip Lacquer Luxe Vinyl, same high gloss effect yet a less opaque, and thinner consistency (they are more gloss than a liquid lipstick). Also the click pen version is not one of my favourite types of packaging.

The latest Winter Soleil release carried new Soleil Lip Lacquers in white packaging. They are a nourishing gloss formula, less pigment and thinner formula. Nothing like the Lip Lacquer Luxe.

Bottom Line

I think the mattes are truly worth grabbing. Even just one. The colours are pretty and the red (Overpower) is possibly the most beautiful red I own (and I have a LOT of reds!).

Even though they are priced almost 50% higher than the average luxury lipstick, I highly recommend these if they are within your budget. Totally worth the splurge.

It’s always exciting reviewing NARS launches. I think their formulations are some of the best in the market.

Late last year they revamped their entire eyeshadow lineup and improved on their already impressive shadows which was exciting as a fellow ‘Narsisist’! See swatches/ first impressions of their single shadows here. Fittingly, I’ve been spotting a bunch of new palettes now out with this new formula.

One of which is this new neutral palette called Skin Deep, I knew I had to have it ASAP. The good ones really go out of stock FAST!

I love how the palette has some everyday basics in larger pans. It’s been designed in a way that the most used neutrals are set in a larger pan since they are most likely to be the first to be used up. In addition, these powders can be applied to any part of the face anyway, you don’t need to restrict yourself to using them solely as eyeshadows! Some shades make interesting blush colours (especially) for deeper skin tones, or work even as contour.

On the top row each contain 3.5g of product in comparison to the ones on the bottom two rows which are just 1.4g each (for reference their single shadows usually contain 1.1g but look much larger than these small ones, strangely). I have a feeling the numbers are a bit off on this unless the pans are deeper.. who knows.

At first glance I also noticed a couple of the shades are actually some of the older popular single eyeshadows sitting beside the new ones. Bali and Coconut Grove have been two of my OG faves. Newly launched Sophia is also included in the larger pan.

I honestly don’t mind the repetition. Overall the mix is really versatile and that’s all that matters in my opinion. In any case, a majority of the shades are new (although some can be very closely duped with existing NARS shadows).

The formula of these when swatched were on par with the new reformulated shadows from October. Some, such as Faster Pussycat, Basic Instinct were (almost) creamy to the touch and swatch like butter!

Whipped – is warmer reddish matte brown

Undressed – is a medium cool taupe

Icon – is a lustrous champagne

Overall the eyeshadows are well pigmented and apply smoothly. Even the mattes blend like a dream. Honestly, I can’t pick a single dud in here. NARS really set the standard high with this palette.

Skin Deep, is one of those palettes that’s perfectly curated. There’s a matte highlighter/ base shade, a few transition options and shimmery pop colours. Literally no guess work with all the shades just laid out perfectly. I have to say it makes life easier to not have to fish for a neutral beige or dig out a matte brown.

For todays makeup I added a blue winged liner for some contrast inspired by my blue manicure. My aim was to not make this neutral eye look boring. And the blue really compliments the warm coppery lower lash line.

Also making an appearance is the latest NARS face palette Fireclay on the cheeks and highlight points. Hopefully reviewing this next.

Here’s a closer look. My hooded eyes make it a bit difficult photographing the lid space without looking sleepy.  But here’s my best take! You see the eyeshadow placements more clearly.

Products used, Icon and Basic Instinct in the inner corner blended towards the center. Undressed and Whipped in the crease for depth and transition. Bali in the outer corner. Faster Pussycat on the lower lash line.

For eyeliner I used an old NARS navy blue eye pencil topped with the single shadow Outremer for extra pop.

On the lips i’m wearing a nude lip liner with Orgasm Afterglow Lip Balm.

Cheeks & subtle highlight via the Fireclay palette. It’s a 100% NARS look!

Bottom Line

Can’t recommend this palette enough! Even though the colours in here can be duped by other NARS singles in my stash, the convenience of having them all together, already curated and ready to go is money well spent. I know i’ll be packing this on practically every trip now on.

I love that there’s a good mix of mattes and shimmers which play very well together and the overall neutral tone makes for easy everyday eye looks since it doesn’t lean too red or warm.

If you already have a tonne of palettes, you probably won’t need this one. But I can’t hide the fact that it’s one of the best eyeshadow palettes i’ve seen in quite some time with really good quality & value for money and (i’ve tried a fair few to say the least)! PLUS it’s totally wearable for all skin tones, including the deeper complexions which is wonderful.

Bottom line, I’m enjoying it loads, and it’s something I wouldn’t want you to miss out on if you are thinking of grabbing this.

Each summer Chanel releases the Les Beiges collection. A mix of beauty essentials especially curated for sun kissed golden skin. The Les Beiges powders in limited edition packaging are my favourite, but the lip balms and summer eye quads are usually equally enticing!

This year, Chanel will be launching a 9 pan eyeshadow palette, a new shade addition to the Les Beiges Healthy Glow lip balm and a whole range of Les Beiges powders in beige packaging with the name Chanel in a handwritten style.

Also in the mix, there’s an even more exciting foundation launch, the Les Beiges Water-Fresh Tint featuring microfluidics technology (to be reviewed soon).

Todays post will be focused on the colour collection, i.e the eye palette and the lip balm seen above.

Les Indispensables is a ‘natural eyeshadow collection’. A host of neutrals in a perfectly curated mix of mattes, satins and shimmers. It’s your wardrobe of essentials for all day, and night.

The palette clearly leans neutral, the colours and tones working harmoniously to enhance the beauty of nude skin.

I find the formula and payoff of the mattes similar to last years Clair-Obscur nude palette. The textures are silky and sits on the eyes like a second skin. They don’t feel powdery or dry. They blend very easily and create an eye look with no harsh lines; perfect for fool-proof application.

The paler shimmers go on smooth, (there’s one beige and a pale pink) creating simple elegant strokes of highlight adding depth to the eye looks.

The right side of the palette contains a cluster of rich neutrals in rust tones, earthy browns and taupe grey for added depth along the lash line and crease.

Here’s another set of swatches.

I’ve been testing several eye looks with these over the Chanel Longwear Eye Primer. It extends the wear of all eyeshadows and creates a smooth canvas for application. (Something I absolutely recommend investing in). The colours never faded throughout wear and looked as fresh as it was applied till I removed them approx. 7 hours later.

My overall verdict on this palette is that it’s perfect for an understated sophisticated makeup look. Perfectly suited for the discerning clientele they cater to.

Personally I think it’s one of those palettes that can be a work horse in your collection, effortlessly churning out a multitude of natural eye makeup looks from soft defined eyes to smokier versions for the night time. Even the ‘red’ in the palette is the most wearable one i’ve ever seen!

For the lips, Healthy Glow Lip Balm adds the perfect hint of colour. A universally flattering warm brick red for a stained effect.

The texture is creamy and hydrating for maximum comfort. Perfect for a hint of colour but essentially a lip balm that’s great all day every day.

On to a look created with the collection.

I swapped out the balm and used a (new) nude Rouge Coco Flash instead. The colour is Casual (worn over a lip that was filled in with a nude lip pencil).

Bottom Line

If you missed out on the last matte nude quad Clair-Obscur (reviewed), this new 9 pan palette is well worth picking up. It allows a lot more variety in looks while still satisfying that need for everyday mattes.

If you’ve been deciding between the previous NARS Skin Deep palette (reviewed) and this, the two are actually quite different. I’ll add a swatch set for easy reference, but overall the Chanel is the safer bet for fairer skin tones that prefer neutral tones over warm. I also see this palette appealing to the mature customer that prefers subtle definition over bold look too.

What are your picks from the collection? I’ve already been testing the new foundation and without giving too much away, I can say it’s not disappointing! Definitely something to look into if you prefer sheer to medium coverage with a radiant finish.

This summer CHANEL adds a brand new foundation to it’s base portfolio. The Les Beiges Water-Fresh Tint. Using a patented microfruidics process, this new skin tint features cutting edge technology to deliver a result that mimics ‘nude’ skin. Imperceptible, like a second skin and luminous for that gorgeously dewy healthy look.

The pigments are suspended in an aqueous phase (92%). Which releases a wave of freshness on application as it hydrates the skin with a high dose of water, vegetal glycerin (read vegan) and tamarind extract. The other 8% is the oily phase, containing pigment capsules which burst once applied.  Encapsulating pigments in this manner enables the limiting of extra ingredients such as emulsifiers and helps deliver that exceptionally weightless feel.

Packaging

The packaging is a clear pump version with a signature black cap. It’s elegant, perfectly travel friendly (lightweight and less prone to damage) and pretty much a summer essential for your upcoming holidays.

The foundation comes with it’s own brush for application. Densely packed with a tapered edge & designed to give the best results with this base. The quality of the brush is pretty good. It’s washable, and is quite sturdy. Unlike some of the flimsy brushes that come free with products.

Application Tips

According to the demo videos i’ve seen online, Lucia Pica (CHANEL Global Creative Makeup & Colour Designer) dispenses the product to the back of her hand and blends the product with the brush to burst the micro droplets, after which it’s applied to the skin.

I’ve been working the other way around and found that pumping the product to the back of my hand and picking up product (water, micro-droplets whole) and then blending the solution on the skin itself works great and minimizes wastage. One observation was, you run through the product easily. And my method helps with getting most of the product on the face without wasting it on the back of your hand!

The finish of this is sheer and incredibly glowy. Very similar effect to the dewy Korean cushions from a few years back. The difference would be the CHANEL version almost feels like a gel foundation and sets. Working quite well with warmer humid weather of summer.

The extra thin layer means no excess product that can end up seeping into fine lines.Therefore I believe this will look amazing on mature skin, specially with it’s luminous youthful glow.

As seen in the ‘before’ and ‘after’ I appreciate how it evens out the redness around my cheeks and leaves my skin looking natural but perfected, & even-toned. If you are looking for more coverage, sadly this isn’t buildable and should suit only those who require light coverage. Overall the feel is, it’s very much like a tinted moisturiser. But a grown-up fancy version with slightly more coverage. For added coverage I usually pair this with my Clé de Peau Beauté concealer to any blemished areas I need extra concealing, leaving the healthy skin to shine through.

As far as longevity goes, it lasts pretty well on my combination skin. Doesn’t move around once (lightly) powdered. I would highly recommend this especially if you tend to wear minimal base during the day and prefer a natural look (like myself).

Here’s one last look on how this looks on the skin, outdoors. It’s absolutely imperceptible with a youthful glow when you compare the skin on my shoulders to the cheeks.

Bottom Line

It’s a great summer foundation. It does feel light and airy on the skin as it claims. Sheer coverage means it’s pretty easy to get a decent shade match too.

This comes in six btw. Light. Medium Light. Medium. Medium Plus. Light Deep & Deep.

The only problem I found with this was you really run through it fast! I have only used it about 7 times and it’s already at the 3/4 mark. I wish it would last a bit longer. But will gladly repurchase once I do finish this bottle as my skin loves it!
